A late researcher in Italy who has already been blamed for image manipulation in a PLOS ONE retraction notice has had two more papers retracted, both from Free Radical Biology and Medicine.
Here’s the notice for 2007’s “Redox regulation of 7-ketocholesterol-induced apoptosis by β-carotene in human macrophages,” by Paola Palozza and colleagues:
This article has been retracted: please see Elsevier Policy on Article Withdrawal (http://www.elsevier.com/locate/withdrawalpolicy).
This article has been retracted at the request of the Editor-in-Chief. Following an internal investigation by the Catholic University School of Medicine, following a complaint on figure image manipulation, the Catholic University Commission confirmed the inappropriate figure assembly of Figure 2, panel A and B and Figure 5, panels A, C and E. As the corresponding author, Prof. Palozza, has passed away, the Commission acting on her behalf ask that the paper be withdrawn, and regret any inconvenience this paper may have caused the journal and the scientific community.
The paper has been cited 28 times, according to Thomson Scientific’s Web of Knowledge.
And here’s the notice for 2008’s “Design, synthesis, and antioxidant potency of novel α-tocopherol analogues in isolated membranes and intact cells:”
