Meet our newest team member: Dalmeet Singh Chawla

dalmeetJoin us in welcoming new staff writer Dalmeet Singh Chawla.

Dalmeet was inspired by talks at the 2014 Association of British Science Writers meeting (including by our own Ivan Oransky) to build a niche for himself as a writer – lucky for us, he chose science publishing. His focus has been on stories about innovations in scholarly publishing, but also covered peer review, authorship and publisher policies along the way.

As Dalmeet told us:

When I saw the staff writer opportunity crop up at Retraction Watch, my eyes lit up because it’s exactly the area I like to report on.

Thanks to some generous funding from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation, we’ve brought him on board to continue his professional development and cover ongoing retraction news. You may have noticed his byline already, as he’s been contributing to the site since earlier this year.

He has a BSc degree in biochemistry from University College London, and began freelancing as a science journalist in June 2014, while finishing his MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College London. His work has appeared in Nature, Science, The Economist, The Sunday Times, New Scientist, The Observer, Times Higher Education, The Scientist and more. In September 2015, he was shortlisted for the ‘Outstanding Young Journalist’ Award, which is part of the Asian Media Awards 2015 (hosted by ITV), for freelance reporting.

For more on Dalmeet – who is based in London, UK — you can check out his website, or follow him on Twitter.

  1. He would seem to be a good choice, as much important, and sometimes dodgy, stuff is occurring in EU-Land and areas over there. If he could read Dutch, that would be grand, since much of what is happening that makes it here is in the Netherlands. However, Serbia, Germany, and other places have had their moments in the sun as well.

  2. Congratulations Dalmeet, will look forward to read your writings and this is a wonderful place to learn and grow. Good Luck
