Retraction Watch readers: We need help.
As many of our loyal tipsters know, the list of retractions and related stories that we can’t get to just keeps getting longer. And as we grow, we want to groom a stable of paid freelance — and perhaps one day full-time — Retraction Watch contributors.
So with that in mind — and knowing that it can be difficult for early-career journalists to gain experience in accountability journalism — we’ve decided the an internship is the first investment we’ll make with funds our generous supporters have sent us.
Responsibilities:
- Writing at least one post per day
- Helping with categorization and other back-end tasks
Requirements:
- A three-month commitment (may be extended)
- Availability at least three days per week
- Ability to think critically and skeptically about science and the scientific process
The more of these things you have, the more competitive a candidate you’ll be:
- Experience, including school, in science
- Experience in journalism including in school and at college news outlets
- Familiarity with how scientific publishing works
- Experience with WordPress
- A social media presence
What’s in it for you:

- Exposure on a site cited frequently by major news organizations around the world
- $500/week (or $100/day for part-time)
We can’t yet offer an office, so our intern can be based anywhere. Proximity to New York, where we’re based, would be helpful, but not necessary.
