Carlo Croce, a cancer researcher at The Ohio State University who has waged legal battles against those he feels have wronged him, has lost another of those fights.
A judge in Franklin County, Ohio, ruled against Croce in a case he brought against OSU to stop them from removing him as chair of his department. Croce had filed the suit late last year. Details are scant, but an order to terminate the case appeared in court records earlier this week.
An OSU spokesperson told Retraction Watch:
The Court ruled in Ohio State’s favor, granting Summary Judgment and stating that Dr. Croce was properly removed.
The cancer researcher had been represented — albeit with a gap — by the James E. Arnold & Associates, of Columbus, Ohio. The firm had represented him — also unsuccessfully — in a libel suit Croce filed against the New York Times over a 2017 story chronicling multiple investigations of his work for potential misconduct.
Neither Croce nor his attorneys responded to requests for comment.
Croce, who earns more than $800,000 per year from OSU, has had nine papers retracted, and more than a dozen have been subjected to a correction or an expression of concern.
