It’s Giving Tuesday: Consider supporting Retraction Watch

RW logoWithout you, we wouldn’t exist. Plain and simple.

From story tips, to encouragement, to comments that add more substance to a story, we thank you, and are forever grateful. With your help, we can continue to shine a spotlight on scientific misconduct and hopefully improve the process of self-correction.

And there’s another way in which you’ve supported us throughout the years: With generous donations. Now, on this Giving Tuesday, we’re hoping some of you will consider making tax-deductible charitable contributions to The Center For Scientific Integrity, the 501(c)3 parent organization of Retraction Watch. Please consider financially supporting our work — any amount helps.

We have been fortunate to have the generous support of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Laura and John Arnold Foundation, and the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Trust. That funding has allowed us to hire staff, broaden our work, and begin to build our database — more news on that quite soon. (And for more on how we make use of those grants, other donations, honoraria, and freelance writing fees, here is our 2015 tax return.)

But there is always more we’d like to do, some of it in response to requests from readers. We’ve begun filing more Freedom of Information Act requests, for example, and often institutions decline to waive charges for gathering documents. Our daily email — are you subscribed yet? — costs money to produce. And there are always more investigations we’d like to do.

All of that requires funding, so we hope you’ll consider giving generously.

A reassurance: We plan to keep RetractionWatch.com and our database freely available to the public, as part of our commitment to open access to information, including scientific corrections and retractions. You do not have to make a donation to continue to read our coverage — but we certainly appreciate anything you can offer, whether it’s a story tip or cash.
